Many people would like to go for guitar tapping lessons for the fun of it or just to understand it as a career. Although ‘Legatos’ has been known for many years as a technique used by many guitar players it was recently made popular by Eddie VanHalen. Most of the country players understand the benefit acquired when one lays the subtle lead and puts the clear guitar tapping in the quick hammers. Although this may not be the easiest thing for a player to do, finger-tapping methods involve just a quick hammer on, followed by a pull off. Regardless of whether you use the first or middle finger, anyone can hold the pick as normally done to execute guitar tapping and licking. This helps you to get the essential positioning and speed, which forms the basis of excellent guitar tapping techniques. When you are taking the guitar tapping lessons, you should be patient as learning takes time.
Guitar tapping has become popular as an increasing number of people are taking up classes for the guitar tapping lessons, yet you still hear of many players tapping badly. This will be observed particularly after a distortion occurs when a guitar is cranked. There will be other noises accompanying this distortion especially if the player’s tapping techniques are not so clean. The remedy on how to clean up the cranking when one has hit the “overdrive” is by placing the backside of the right hand onto the lower strings and this will enhance muting. This will help reduce any further noise while one is still tapping or concentrating on a single steady movement. Obviously, if you play rock you are probably already too eager to start on the ‘cross-handed tapping’, which is all flashy and is only done when one is playing live. It is a very difficult way of playing the guitar, but is so far the most distinct.
The worst scenario would be when you are trying to pull off a flashy tapping tip and not pull it off well. Guitar tapping techniques are only good and clear when one is able to do them, therefore you should be keen to listen and learn during the guitar tapping lessons. This helps build more confidence especially if you have mastered a licking technique on acoustic and tries it on the electric guitar.
Some flashy techniques are easier done on electric guitar than on acoustic, like playing a flashy exercise such as lightening fast arpeggios or guitar tapping. You will be able to descend on the sounds created, the noise and at the same time not catch mistakes or nuisances. You can try tapping on an acoustic guitar or if you are looking for a bigger challenge, consider tapping on the acoustic bass. Although an acoustic guitar would do just fine, it is difficult for a beginner. One of the most challenging techniques and at some point difficult kind of tapping is the cross-handed guitar tapping. This technique takes up a lot of energy and strength but when you are able to master the acoustic during guitar tapping lessons, then using an electric would not be that difficult.
